My Landform reasearch

                                                                        Water falls:

Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and glaciers create waterfalls, too. They cause the land to shift. This changes the height in the bed of a river or a stream. With such a sudden change in height, a stream or river quickly becomes a waterfall. There are many types of waterfalls. Their names often describe how they look. Here are four: (1) Fan waterfalls fan out wide as they descend. (2) Block waterfalls descend in a wide sheet. (3) Tiered waterfalls drop in steps. (4)  Punch bowl waterfalls fall into a wide, round pool.

Volcanoes:

But what is a volcano? Sixty miles (97 km) beneath our feet lies a layer of hot, half - molten rock called the mantel. Enormous crustal plates, thousands of miles across, float like rafts on this ocean of soft stone. The plates fit together like a giant puzzle. They push against one another or pull apart, moving so slowly that they might take a hundred years or more to travel an inch. In certain parts of the world, the movement of the crustal plates causes cracks to form deeper underground, all the way to the mantle. Molten rocks called magma fills the cracks, rising up through the crust towards the surface of the earth.

Glaciers:

Most glaciers look like soldi walls rising from the sea. Some have been around for thousands of years. Cold temperatures keep glaciers solid. But heat is a glacier's enemy. Rising temperature can break glaciers apart. In cold temperatures, the water molecules slow down. They bond together to form a solid mass of ice. But as temperatures rise, the molecules start to move around more, and they start to break their bond. The warm water under glaciers heats up. Melted water on its top also thins the glacier. This can cause a glacier to crack. If the crack is big enough an iceberg is born.

Caves:

Caves are natural openings in the earth. Some are holes in the side of mountains. Others go hundreds of feet down into the ground. Sea caves form on the coast and in the water. Caves have tunnels and rooms. These are called chambers. Tunnels connect the chambers and caves form in rock. Most caves are formed by erosion. And erosion is when something is worn down over time. Wind and water erode rock. Most caves form from water erosion. Caves in karst are the most common. Karst is land made up of limestone.

Rivers:

Usually a river begins as a stream in the mountains. Water from rain and snow adds to it, It trickles. It flows down a mountain. Many fresh tributaries feed it. A wider river forms. As a river flows, it carries sediment. It carries rocks and pebbles. The larger the material is called a river's load. The river's load erodes the channel. It makes it deeper. A river's channel is the path it takes across the land. The land at the river's edge is called the riverbank. Flowing water erodes the riverbank. The water gets wider. Soil, rocks, and plant life also affect the river's shape.

Athletics day recount

Last Thursday we had a sports day and this is how my day went.

I was the captain of my team for sports. Mr Hadnett gave me a piece of cardboard with points on it. The cardboard had point numbers that the teachers could choose how many points my team got within that session.

Me and my team went to one of the rotations we had to do. First up was skipping. We did lots of skipping races and normal skipping. Overall I didn't really enjoy skipping because the instructions were confusing me and I didn't really understand what to do. When skipping was finished we moved onto the three legend race.

The three legged race was really fun. We had to get into partners and my partner was Rocio. Me and Rocio won first place every time but it was a bit tricky because when me and Rocio were walking to the finish line I nearly tripped and broke my ankle.when that session was finished my group said “Thankyou” and then we left to the next session

The next session was the sack race and the running race. First I had to get a partner, and my partner was Michael. I had to run to the bag and then come inside the potato bag. When we did it a couple of times it was finally finished. When it was finished we left for the next session.

The next session was throwing the gum boot. We had to throw the gumboot as far as we could. When I was throwing the gumboot it was really hard because my gum boot would only go two flags in front of me (which was not that far) Overall it was a bit fun I guess. Later on it was morning tea and we had to go and eat.

Once it was finished me and my group went to the egg on a spoon race. For this game there was an egg on a spoon and you had to see if your whole entire group can hold the egg on a spoon, while walking, giving it to the next person in your group without cracking the egg. My group did very well and it was really fun. Later on we had to move to another session which was long jump.

When we went to the long jump I had to take off my shoes.and then lineup so that it could be my turn to jump on the sand.I liked the long jump because all I had to do was jump as far as I could. Then later on we had to change sessions which caught the tail.

When we went to catch the tail Michael was the tagger he had to capture every body's tail. Michael did when eventually and it was really fun. When we were finished playing we went to another session which was throwing the bean bags in the bucket.

When we were starting to throw the bean bags into the buckets wA+_5e had to then stop and do a challenge. That challenge was to get the bean bags into all the buckets to take them out and win. When my team was trying to throw the bean bags in the bucket my team sadly lost but that was ok because at least we tried. When we were finished we had to go up to the library and I had to say prayers. Once I was finished saying prayers it was lunchtime so me and my friends went to go and play.

Later on me and my friends heard the bell so we went to where the library was. When we were near the library we got told that we had to go down the field. I watched everybody do sprints until… It was my turn to run!!! I was lining up in a line so I could race. When Mr Tea did this loud clap noise I ran! When I was running I took a quick glance at my family because they were on the edge of the field. I then ran and ran until I came first!! My heart was filled up with joy. I then got a card that said first place so I could give it to Mr Hadnett.

Overall it was finished and my favourite session was catching the tail and throwing the bean bags into the buckets. My highlight of that day was seeing my family on that day at school and having fun!!

If I were to thank God

If I were to thank God I would thank him for all the happy times I spent with loved ones, and for creating me and bringing me into this world.

During lockdown it was kind of boring but my family would always make me feel happy, and I would like to thank God for that.

I know I have made some bad decisions but God will always forgive me. Thank-you God for lowering the number of people with Coronavirus in New Zealand, and for keeping my family and friends safe.

Thank You God for creating people that make me smile and make me feel like I'm not alone. Even though 2020 has been a really rough year I would like to thank God for helping me get through it all.

My journey and Goals

This week me and my class have been thinking about our goals. These are my goals that I did on a google drawing.

What would happen if we had no waterfalls?

People like waterfalls. But, be careful. Waterfalls are powerful! Some are not safe to swim or hike near.

Water falls are caused by erosion. As water flows, it carries sediment such as sand and rocks.

A waterfall is a place where water rushes down a steep ledge. The water flows from higher land, then it falls down a big step of rock to lower land of softer rock where it will continue on its journey.
